Get drunk for the holidays the Spanish way

I like drinking with the family during the holidays. It’s always a fun time and a great way to bond with everybody which is important. As time goes on you have less time with family with everything going on in life so its nice to just kick back, give gifts and of course drink. I’m Dominican but I don’t discriminate when it comes to alcohol, I’m an equal opportunist. This time of year I’ve decided to start making large batches of Coquito which is basically Puerto Rican egg nog. I could say its the same as the Dominican version Ponche de Ron but I’m just going to call it Coquito. It sounds better and rolls off the tongue a lot better.

After searching for a recipe i found this one which is linked right here from food.com. Its a real good recipe and a really, really, really strong recipe. It will get you drunk and you won’t even know it. Also a lot of recipes call for raw eggs and this one cooks the eggs

The ingredients go as follow
2 cups water
6 cinnamon sticks
6 large egg yolks
3 cans evaporated milk
2 cans coconut milk
3 cans sweetened condensed milk
3 cups rum

I think this will make around 3 gallons of Coquito but don’t quote me on that. I felt the effects during numerous tastings.

Take your cinnamon sticks and water and cook on high heat and reduce down to about 1 cup. Let it chill to about room temperature.

Combine egg yolks and evaporated milk. Cook over low heat never bring it to a boil. Remember your trying to just kill the germs in the eggs and add a little bit of a thicker consistency not making scrambled eggs. Cook it till its about 170 degrees which takes around 10 minutes.

Add your chilled cinnamon water and mix with the coconut milk.

Combine the rest of your ingredients to the coconut milk and add the evaporated milk mixture.

Put it in a container and chill your completed Coquito in the fridge. The flavor gets better as the days go on. Also buy a whole bunch of mason jars and add Coquito to it and give it away to friends and family. Remember this time of year is about giving to your friends and family and whats better then delicious alcohol.
